In December of 2003, just after classes had ended and students had left for Holiday recess, the WMU Board of Trustees approved a recommendation to eliminate Men's Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field. 2004 marks the last season that a Men's team will compete on the cross country trails and university oval on the WMU campus. A 90 year tradition comes to an end.
